The Story
A group of young adults become involved with an international organization that seek to control events around the world. Eric makes a discovery that threatens the fund raising ability of the clandestine group and therefore puts his own life at risk. Eric's friend Jill finds Erin to be a threat to her long term friendship and the security she finds with Eric.
Behind the Story
This novel takes several paths as it winds its way through the twists and turns of the story. Along the first path we witness the arrogance of an international organization who believe they possess the wisdom to direct the affairs of the world. Just as we see in the world around us today, power corrupts and tends to feed on itself. This leg of the story tends to follow the saying; "The road to hell is paved with good intentions".
The second path allows the reader to explore through Eric's choices and behavior the way our subconscious mind can affect and control our thoughts and choices. There are times when we misunderstand the things we see because of our subconscious or preconceived ideas. What does Eric really see when he looks at Erin and Jill? That question is answered before the end of the novel. The unanswered question is this; does Jill love Eric or see him as her "life raft" that she is unwilling to cast away.

5 Stars Very exciting conspiracy in this story, exceptionally well written, terrific plot!!
This is a good story by W. Scott Mitchell about Eric a young man that came up with a way to predict the bond market and is able to make money off the bond market. However, because of his ability to make better predictions than Dr. Whitehurst and his colleagues it causes a major problem. This problem causes the plot to twist and turn. This story has a conspiracy theory, some sensual aspects, Philosophy, economics and there are a lot of sinister plots against Eric.
There are several other main characters in the story that hold significant; Erin, who seems depressed and loves dark poetry but is a good friend to Eric. Then, there is Jill, who works for Dr. Whitehurst and spends a great deal of time with Eric even though she is engaged to Gary. Gary is a computer genius and is also Eric’s roommate. Eric loves both Jill and Erin, but they seem to be deceiving him at every turn, along with Gary.
This book was very well written and makes you think while reading because of the way the characters talk to each other and to themselves. This book is for those who like a read that challenges his/her brain and makes you think the entire time. There are so many twists and turns in the plot, but you get a little bit of everything with this book.
Amazing Romantic Thriller!
I would recommend this book to those who love conspiracy theories and who like a highly intellectual read.
4.7 Stars 4.7 out of 5 stars! I loved it and you will too!
What an amazing story! This is the best story I have read in the last year! I loved it and you will too!
Mr. Mitchell has written a story that takes you into the minds of an interesting and varied group of characters, all seem to have sinister intentions toward Eric.
Eric is a semi-lost 20 something, freshly graduated from college, he has found a way to make steady money off the bond market.
Erin is in school and seems to have a penchant for depressing poetry, but the rest of her life seems quite normal; though rather mysterious.
Jill is a borderline genius in chemistry and working for Professor Whitehurst. She spends a lot of her free time with Eric, when her fiancée Gary is not in town; Gary, a computer genius, is also Eric’s roommate.
There is a congressman, an international financier, and other shady characters.
There is some flitting into the past to gather back story, but most of the book centers around a four day weekend at a corporate style retreat in the North Eastern United States. This is where the real fun gets off the ground. Layers of honesty are being peeled back to reveal apparently nefarious intentions. Eric is asking himself several times, who can I trust?
He loves Jill and he loves Erin, Gary was his roommate; but they all seem to have deceived him in the past and continue now. He also has a ghost in his past that has him tied in knots at times.
This is some of the most interesting dialogue and scenery I have seen in a long time!
It has conspiracy theory, racy moments, philosophy, economics and veiled threats abound.
The down side is there are quite a few spelling errors, mostly misplaced words and some missing words. These things really make for a bumpy ride if you are a good speller. A .3 deduction.
Such a great story and so well written, 4.7 stars out of 5! I might read it again.

5 Stars Amazing Romantic Thiller!
I actually stayed up all night to finish this book! (I paid for it in the morning when the kids were up, but it was so worth it!) I have to say it was so refreshing to read a book written by a male author and written in the male perspective. As a reader I don't find many good, romantic stories out there by men. One of my favorite things throughout the book were the references to the elusive "man code", if only we women got a copy of said code. The other hilarious part was the horseback riding. I won't give it away, but I could literally see the events unfolding in my head and couldn't stop laughing.
On a more serious note this book is very intellectual and is not a light easy read. It uses great language (words like erroneous instead of wrong) but you actually have to really engage your brain to read this book. How was the plot you ask? Which one? Mitchell writes a plot within a plot, within a plot. It sounds confusing, it really isn't and Mitchell pulls it off flawlessly. The romance plot was very good, with plenty of unexpected surprises along the way. While the books keeps the romance PG13 there is cheating, so if that is not your cup of tea, you probably shouldn't read the book. The Thiller plot; I loved it. The A Priori were a fascinating organization to read about. (Think the mob, U.N., and the peace corps all in one.) I would love to read a more in depth novel about them, this book just gives the reader a taste of the possibilities with this organization.
As a whole this novel is very philosophical and psychological, dealing in a very subtle way with many thoughts and ideals of today. As the characters ask and respond to each other about the differnt things happening in the story, It makes the reader ask themselves some very tough questions such as; are we to complacent as a society? Have we sacrificed our morals and ethics in our quest for greed and power? Where does our loyalty lie? Loyalty is a big part of the book. Should Eric stick by his friend Gary just because he is a man (and it's in the guy code) or should he support a female friend of equal standing? As a character Eric must make some tough decisions forcing himself to realize he must grow up. I feel this resonates with all readers because we all face that decision and feeling from time to time. All the characters are extremely well written and deep, their personalities seem to grip your heart and mind right from the page.
The only thing about this novel that I didn't like was when Eric was thinking to himself he was extremely intellectual and analytical. I often fould myself wondering, who thinks like this? This tended to slow down the reading in those parts of the book. I did find it preferable though to those girls who whine in their heads (I love him,I hate him) in other novels. This book also had some grammatical errors, but they were not a big deal. The lack of repetitiveness and word usage more than made up for it.
This is simply a well thought out, well written, hidden gem of a novel that I couldn't put down and would highly recommend.
5 Stars I began to enjoy it immensely
Eric McKenzie (26, narrator, University of Vermont; economics, philosophy, former Peace Corps) had just received his 2 undergraduate degrees & was headed for the graduate school office.
Jill McKenna (mathematics) was the receptionist & announced he would see Dr. Paul Whitehurst (PhD, Professor, economics). Eric was going to be his research assistant while going to grad school.
Jill is Gary fiancée & Eric former roommate.
In a far off cabin located in Pittsford, Vermont Dr. Greg Carpenter (PhD, economics), Senator Harrison Green (Chair of the Subcommittee on Energy) & Professor Paul Whitehurst were having a meeting. The 3 belonged to the A Priori organization.
The discussion centered on Eric McKenzie final research paper on the financial gains/losses of the bond market.
Senator Harrison Green left & aka Bruce (A Priori organization) showed up?
What did he reveal to the remaining 2 members?
1st block summer school was over for Eric.
Dr. Whitehurst was off to Paris. There was a meeting & a plan had been devised between Dr. Whitehurst & the other man?
Erin (f, 25, MS chemistry, Brown) flies in from Washington D.C. to visit Eric. She works for a think tank in the summer.
Jill & Eric were becoming quite close.
Dr. Carpenter (Board member, Excel Polar) appeared before the Washington D.C. Senate Finance committee.
Was there any insider trading going on with Excel Polar (XLPZ)? They build specific equipment for wind turbines. Should the Securities Exchange Commission be notified?
Eric & Jill went to visit his folks in Durham, New Hampshire.
When the 2 retuned Erin was in Eric’s apartment.
Later Sergeant Dan Smith was at the door. HHHmmmm?
Later on aka Bruce greets Eric & Erin in his apartment.
Bruce invites all 4 of them: Eric, Erin (twin) & Gary & Jill to his private estate at Maple
Brook Farms for the W/E. Wesley (driver) would pick them all up.
Later on Bruce revealed to the 4 about the international A Priori origination.
The next day the 4 went to the Capitol Plaza hotel for a meeting. David Westerly (oil association director), Steve, Jason & Bruce greeted all of them. Current economic forecasts were discussed. Someone needed to meet with OPEC.
What was Bruce’s offer to them? The group had a lot to discuss & a decision had to be made!?
Eric, Erin & Gary & Jill were socializing & enjoying an evening drink when aka Henry (A Priori) shows up & gives the group an ultimatum. What did Eric tell him?
What did Gary reveal to the other 3?
Eric & Erin were headed to Baltimore, MA. Henry & Bruce both met them at the airport.
TSA agent Rankin & FBI Agent Stone (A Priori) greeted the 2 at the other airport.
Eric & Erin ended up in a cabin in the Pocono Mountains.
What will Erin tell Eric?
Next stop for them New Hampshire at Eric’s parents’ house. Eric, Jill, Gary, & Erin. They would have another meeting with Bruce.
Life decisions must be made for each of them.
Who is playing whom?
Will Eric & Erin have a lasting relationship?
Will Gary (Meredith & Wilson, NY) & Jill (fiancée, PhD mathematics student) get married?
502 pages is a lot for a reader to digest. There were lot/lots of what I call excessive chapter fillers. Normally I take off points for that. It wasn’t blah, blah, blah. They were about PPL’s lives, hopes & dreams & romance. I began to enjoy it immensely.
How to make a romantic/heterosexual relationship work, well maybe!
I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.
A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. Wow, a very well written YA suspenseful adventure book. OK & romance. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were a few grammar/typo errors, but no repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great YA adventure movie (Wiki leak), or mini TV series. Another top 10 for the year. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.
